ROAMING NECESSITIES

This trend is all about automating physical convenience to be there when you need it most.
With a rising interest for automated objects in our lives, there is a growing opportunity to reach customers in new ways without being constrained by time or space.

ROBOMART

San Francisco

Launching this autumn in the Bay Area, Robomart is an on-demand, on-the-move mobile grocery store. Customers can ‘hail’ the closest robomart much the way they would an Uber, and know what it has in stock before it arrives. It then turns up and shoppers unlock its doors, pick what they want, and once finished it merely shuts its doors. Everything is digitised, and Robomart tracks what customers have taken, charges them and then emails a receipt.

7-11 DRONE DELIVERY

United States (Various)

Image: Bisnow

Convenience store giant 7-11 has beaten other e-commerce and delivery kings to successfully make the first industry- approved drone delivery. They partnered with drone operator Flirtey to make the delivery earlier this summer and brought donuts, a coffee, a Slurpee and a chicken salad to a family in just a few minutes. Although the convenience retailer has offered delivery service for a while, the move into drone delivery could see a shift in convenience services going from 1-hour delivery slots to just a few minutes. Many other retail corporations such as Amazon and Walmart are keen to offer drone delivery but implementation has been slow due to regulations.
